Digital Manufacturing Industrial Summit (DMIS) from the eyes of the openZDM team

If you are coming from the world of engineering or manufacturing, Digital Manufacturing Industrial Summit (DMIS), organised from 25th to 27th of April in Valencia (Spain) and hosted by Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), was the place to be! At this event, key Digital Manufacturing stakeholders joined to network and discuss the latest trends on the field.

For openZDM networking with other (zero defect) manufacturing key players and enthusiasts is a main goal. In Spain, we joined other hard-working teams (ZDMP – Zero Defect Manufacturing Platform, ZDZW project, . MAS4AI ., AgileHand Project, i4Q Project, AIDEAS Project, InterQ Project, DIMOFAC, OPTIMAI Project, AI-PRISM, CLARUS Project, SHOP4CF, PeneloPe EU), all with a mission to make the European manufacturing ecosystem more connected and efficient.

During this 3-day long event, three keynote speeches were given in the morning and then a variety of sessions were held in the afternoon. Partners from the openZDM project participated in four different sessions.

On day one, we hosted the Quality Assurance: Product Inspection Technologies session. Our team discussed the various methods and techniques used to ensure that products meet the required quality standards, and how these inspections can be optimized for efficiency and accuracy. Through case studies and real-world examples, the benefits of effective quality inspection were showcased and how this could improve customer satisfaction and brand reputation. At this session, Cristina Cristalli from U-Sense.IT srl talked about the latest trends and best practices in product quality inspection.

On day two, Nikolas Nikolakis, Research Engineer at Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems and Automation and openZDM Project Coordinator was moderating Quality Assurance: Solutions for manufacturers session. The discussion focused on different approaches and solutions for enabling quality assurance and control for manufacturers.

During the same session, there was a topic about Predictive Solutions as a game-changer for the automotive industry lead by Patricia Chambel Narciso, Data & AI Director at Habber Tec Portugal and Martin Mikoleizig, Digital Transformation Manager at Volkswagen Autoeuropa, where our team was explaining the benefits of the openZDM innovative platform for the automotive industry.

On day three of Digital Manufacturing Industrial Summit (DMIS) in Valencia, Nikolas Nikolakis talked about A Digital-Twin-Based Approach to Predictive Quality Control for Zero Defects Manufacturing as a part of the Zero Defects Driving Success session. This methodology is our core approach in achieving the mission to create an open platform for realizing zero defects in cyber-physical manufacturing. On the same day, during the Green Manufacturing Transition session  Vasilis SIATRAS, Researcher at the Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems and Automation talked about A Pathway for Manufacturers on Going Green

Thank you DMIS for the great time!

We had a blast while being at this year’s Digital Manufacturing Industrial Summit. We wish to send a big thank you to the organizers for enabling this great event!
